Had a hard time finding this place. The stand is in the back corner of Essex Market. I'm always looking for random places that offer Japanese fare so I was happy to see it pop up on Yelp when I was walking my dog. The downside is if anyone is in a rush, the service is incredibly slow. I got a salmon bowl and the portions were itty bitty. Definitely not enough for someone with a healthy appetite.

I stopped in to quickly grabbed some onigiri and hop on the train back to my office and was quite pleased with Ni! Unlike a lot of spots offering onigiri in the city, they made mine fresh after I ordered and the rice was still warm enough to feel through the wrap and bag as I carried it out. I ordered the umeboshi and kombu onigiri and both tasted wonderful, though I wouldn't complain if there was a bit more of both topping/filling. PSA- Don't crumple your bag! I'm so used to my onigiri coming pre-rolled that I almost crushed my seaweed sheets, which were tucked into the bag separate of the onigiri. The worker I interacted with was very sweet and I'm eager to come back and try some of their other offerings! Particularly the mixed pickles and the ikura don.

I've wanted to try Ni for so long ever since I spotted them in the previous iteration of the Essex Street Market. Just a note that the prices for the food are on the higher end but you are getting everything so fresh and made from scratch. In a market where there are so many different kinds of vendors and food to choose from, Ni truly offers something special and home-made. My one regret is that I didn't pick up a few more goodies to try (and also that I live so far away, the UWS is practically on the other side of the planet). They have a few rolls and onigiri, as well as snacks, drinks, sauces, and other home goods on display. I grabbed a wild crab/brown rice roll and inhaled the whole thing in minutes. You can also order udon, bento boxes, and rice bowls. We tried the spicy salmon and vegan macro bowls, both of which I'd order again in a heartbeat. The portion sizes are not that large in my opinion, though filling - if you have a larger appetite, I'd suggest maybe getting something else on the side. I loved how they charred the brown rice slightly so it was a little bit crispy and there was more of that nutty flavor. Also liked everything that went into the vegan bowl; favorites were the pickled veggies and hijiki salad, thought the tofu could use a touch more dressing. Keep in mind that if you want really strong, saucy, or salty flavors, you probably won't find those here. This is more of a place that boasts home cooking, where the flavors are a tad more subdued. Definitely reminded me of the meals I ate growing up. Already planning my next trip back here, where I will feast on the vegan and salmon bentos.

Came here awhile back. Walking around Essex Market, we came across Ni Japanese Delicacies. It's a small stall that offers plenty of homemade Japanese to-go meals. It's all laid out neatly, along with a bunch of snacks and drinks that are within reach. You can also order udon noodle soup here. They have lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The owner is so sweet and truly cares about what he is serving his customers. We really enjoyed our bento box, everything inside was fresh and had such a clean flavor. Definitely give this shop a visit if you're in the area. Perfect quick bites kinda place.
